Elton John and David Furnish worry for their son

February 14, 2012

Parents Elton John and David Furnish fear their baby son Zachary may be stigmatized for having gay parents.

“I think he’s going to have a lot of attention thrust upon him,” Furnish tells Attitude magazine.

“He’s going to be potentially doubly stigmatised, because one of his parents is extremely famous and because he comes from two dads.

“We’ve taken advice from counselors. We’ve put a whole scrapbook together about his creation, the people who were involved in the process and how the intent was about love. We’re going to raise him to be proud of who he is.”

John last year said that being a parent brought him the “happiest months” of his lift, but he was cognizant of the dangers facing gay youth or youth with gay parents.

In a piece for the Guardian, the singer said being a father was a “blessing” and “an awe-inspiring responsibility,” adding “we’re determined that he’ll grow up in a world different from the world that we grew up in ourselves.”

In January, John announced that a biopic of his life was “very much in the works.”
Born on Christmas Day 2010, Zachary’s godmother was confirmed as Lady Gaga.
