LGBT Youth Urged To Join Fight Against Hate Crimes

August 21, 2010

The police is urging LGBT youth to assist them in their fight against hate crime.

LINK, the British Transport Police lesbian, gay, bisexual and support network has invited LGBT youth to share their hate crime experiences, in view to help the police formulate and update their current hate crime strategies.

The online workshop is open to young people aged 16 to 24, with those who are interested advised to register in advance for this 21 August session, run from 1pm to 3pm.

Through a series of discussion groups participants will have the opportunity to provide the police with direct feedback and help shape the way in which the police deal with young LGBT people.

All participants will receive a "goodie" bag and will be entered into a prize draw with two winners receiving a bundle of DVDs.

Chair of LINK Chris Dreyfus, who coordinated the workshop, said: “This workshop, the first fully interactive online police and community event ran by the police in the UK, gives the unique opportunity for young people to interact with officers and discuss experiences and concerns they may have faced with regards to hate crime.

“There will be a chance for the LGBT community to explore and suggest ways of improving services victims receive, providing vital feedback to officers.”
