Enterprise-Rent-A-Car Becomes Stonewall Diversity Champion
July 21, 2010
Enterprise-Rent-A-Car has become the latest member to join the Stonewall Diversity Champions Programme, the 600th employer to do so to date.
Enterprise-Rent-A-Car has joined the likes of KPMG, HP, Google, the Army, Lend Lease, the Rugby Football League and IBM, on becoming a member of Stonewall’s good practice forum in which employers can work with Stonewall, and each other on sexual orientation issues.
Spencer King, corporate communications manager of Enterprise-Rent-A-Car said: "It is so important to have diversity and inclusion programmes in place. If you care for individuals, you can get the best out of them.

"I don’t think it is difficult or taboo to address LGB equality in the workplace. In our organisation it does not come from HR, but from the top down. Our CEO, Andy Taylor, is passionate about diversity. For us it is not a tick-box exercise."
Daryl Scales, Enterprise Finance Director said: ‘As an employer how we value and develop our staff sets us apart in our industry. An inclusive environment is critical to our success and by joining the Diversity Champions Programme we’re taking a further step towards helping our staff achieve their full potential, making Enterprise a more effective business, an employer of choice for our talented staff and a leader in our field.’
Ben Summerskill, Stonewall Chief Executive, said: ‘We're delighted that Enterprise has taken this decision. This sends out a very powerful message –that Enterprise recognises that investing in diversity makes good business sense in tough economic times. Forward thinking 21st century employers recruit, recognise and support the very best staff regardless of background – and understand that providing support for all their staff enhances operational effectiveness.’
The Workplace Equality Programme is an annual audit of the policies, practice and employee experiences of workplaces around the country. The Stonewall workplace team then uses an Index to help organisations develop more inclusive workplace environments for their lesbian, gay and bisexual staff.
