LGBT Staff Network For Lloyds TSB

June 11, 2010

A forum for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) employees at Lloyds TSB seems to have taken off, with the membership having already grown to 800 in less than 3 months.

Gareth Jones, the international Welsh rugby player, who came out earlier this year, officially launched the newly formed Rainbow Network. The network aims to provide a forum for all LGBT staff to build internal networks and links to share experiences and to develop opportunities.

Jones, at the launch said: “It’s so important for LGBT people to know that they have the support and understanding of their colleagues. I think Rainbow will be a really valuable network for the staff at Lloyds.”

Fiona Cannon, Lloyds’ diversity and inclusion director said: “Lloyds Banking Group will support Rainbow vocally and practically as part of our ongoing commitment to make this an even better place for all our colleagues to work.”

“The Rainbow Network is the tangible outcome of a process that has been underway for some time. It really demonstrates our commitment to create a more inclusive working environment for everyone. We aim to celebrate our diversity and make sure that everyone feels included – Rainbow will help us to achieve that.”

Lloyds TSB was also Stonewall’s Overall Winner of its Top 100 employers for 2009. On the website the bank states: “Lloyds TSB are the top employer for LGB people in the UK, and our best practice sexual orientation strategy was awarded first place in the 2009 Stonewall Workplace Equality Index. The Index evaluates lesbian, gay and bisexual equality in the workplace with more than 300 UK public and private sector employers participating.

We endeavour to create an environment where all employees can be themselves and feel supported, irrespective of their actual or perceived sexuality. We continue to shape our culture by challenging inappropriate or unsupportive activities & behaviour and we are totally committed to leading by example.”
