Attack on Three Men in Cornwall Deemed Homophobic

March 05, 2010

An attack on three men in Padstow, Cornwall, is being treated as a hate crime by police, as one of the victims was trans.

After a night out on the town, the three men were followed home by their two assailants, one of whom executed the attacks.

Police were called onto the scene on Sunday morning. Two of the three men suffered attacks, while the third escaped unharmed. One man in his fifties was knocked unconscious and the other was treated in hospital for a bleeding ear and swollen knuckles.

Police are reviewing CCTV video footage to gather information on the suspects. Speaking the Cornish Guardian, a police spokesman said:

“We have recorded this incident as a hate crime after one of the victims made a claim that the assault could have been a homophobic attack because one of the party was a transsexual.

“We are following all lines of inquiry including checking the local pub’s CCTV camera footage.

“If anyone has any information we would encourage them to please come forward.”

Both suspects are described as white; in height between 5ft 7in and 5ft 9in; and one with a slim, the other with a stocky build. One of the attackers is described as 20 years old with a bald head, while the other’s age remains unknown.
