BBC Presenter Kristian Digby Found Dead in London Flat

March 03, 2010

BBC presenter Kristian Digby, 32, was found dead at his home in East London Monday morning.

Post-mortem results indicate he died of an attempt at auto-erotic asphyxiation gone wrong.
Police believe a third party was not involved and have ruled out suicide. For now, his death is being treated as unexplained.

Digby, a property expert and filmmaker, has worked on such BBC shows as To Buy or Not To Buy and To Build Or Not To Build.

As a child, Digby battled dyslexia and was sent to Bramdean School in Exeter. Tony Connett, head teacher at the school, said:

"He was a delightful young man. "But he was quite shy and needed something to build his confidence.

"We gave him a video camera and he showed which direction his skills lay with a film about the Combined Cadet Force."

Digby later made a documentary on dyslexia for the BBC.

"He said he was grateful for the support we gave him," said Mr Connett.

"It was a privilege to have taught him."

Jo Wander, Digby’s friend and agent, said: "I am devastated by the loss.

"He was a lovely guy and a very talented presenter and director.

"I will miss him hugely and my thoughts at this time are with his family and his many friends. He will be sorely missed."

Julian Bennett, a friend and broadcaster, praised Digby for bringing the gay community to a wider UK audience.

"He did so much for the gay community

"He appealed to the masses. He was well educated. He made gay acceptable to the middle class and that was a tough thing to do.
