La Roux Dismisses Sexual and Gender Labels

La Roux singer Elly Jackson refuses to be boxed down and labelled into stringent sexual and gender categories, saying she isn’t gay, straight, or bisexual, or even a man or woman.

"I don't have a sexuality,” the singer said. “I don't feel like I'm female or male. I don't belong to the gay or straight society, if there is such a thing. I feel like I'm capable of falling in love with other people. I'm not saying I'm bisexual, I'm just sexual!”
Previously having fought off rumours of being lesbian, the latest statement is set to ignite further gossip and speculation.
"Of course, I can appreciate other women. Beyonce is beautiful. I find men or women sexy. The Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal is hot and I've always fancied James Dean - but, weirdly, I want to look like the people I fancy."
Speaking to Heat magazine last September, Jackson denied being gay and said she anticipated a massive lesbian following but claims they seem to be interested in her more than her music.
“It’s the fact that they think I want their bras - that’s what’s weird about it,” explained Jackson. “One girl in Toronto stood there for ages with her boobs out. Everyone just thinks I’m a raging lesbian and I want to see everyone’s boobs. Sorry, I’m not.”
“I knew that was going to happen. I’m not bothered by it. It was obvious that was what a lot of my fan base would be. I don’t care who comes to the gigs or who likes the music, as long as it’s for the music and not because they fancy you. That’s a shit reason to come to a gig.”
Speaking to the Observer, she said “Looking at the kind of women you see on TV, I wouldn’t think people would find someone like me attractive,” said Jackson.
“But a lot of girls come up to me in clubs and say things like: ‘I’ve got a boyfriend, but I’m attracted to you.’ That’s insane.”
