Boy George Biopic to be Broadcast in Spring
February 10, 2010
The BBC announced late last week the creation of a new biopic of singer Boy George, with filming set to begin in Manchester this month.

Mat Horne from the comedy Gavin and Stacey is cast in the film as Culture Club’s drummer Jon Moss. Douglas Booth will play Boy George. The drama is set in the 1980s, during the singer’s peak as a cultural icon.
The biopic Worried About The Boy will be directed Julian Jarrold and is written by Tony Basgallop, writer of Hotel Babylon.
Boy George’s hits from its 1982 debut album Kissing to be Clever include “Time (Clock of the Heart),” “I"ll Tumble 4 Ya” and “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?” The second half of the decade witnessed the released of mild albums during a period of massive heroin addiction, which will also be documented.
"Worried About The Boy will be an evocative and visually enticing drama about one of our most iconic British pop stars,” said Ben Stephenson, the controller of BBC Drama Commissioning. “With its mix of music, fashion and youth, it rounds off our trio of dramas for BBC Two's Eighties season perfectly."
How the singer met his Culture Club bandmates, his sexual life, personal style and rise to fame from being a cloakroom attendant are topics explored in the drama.
The biopic is slated for broadcast in the spring.
