LGBT Tourist Information Office Moves to Soho

January 27, 2010

Previously situated in Chinatown, London’s LGBT tourist office has now moved to the heart of the city’s gay district, Soho.

The office is now located above Ku Bar, at the corner of Frith Street and Old Compton Street. The space offers laptops with free Internet and is staffed with a new slew volunteers.

“Since the launch last autumn we have had a fantastic response from LGBT tourists and residents,” said Adam Lake from the LGBT information office.

“Over recent months we have forged a great relationship with local businesses which has given us the opportunity to not only give out great advice but we can help people save a lot of money on theatre and club tickets as well as restaurants.”

One of the office’s organisers Michelle Cremona said, “London has the biggest and best gay scene in the word and when LGBT tourists come to visit they can often be daunted by the vast choice that the gay scene offers. The LGBT tourist office provides local knowledge from people who know the scene.”
Ku Bar owner Gary Henshaw believes the re-location is long overdue.

“Before we launched the gay tourist office we always had people come into our venues asking for advice on where they should go to make the most of their time in the city,” he said.

“I think it is an early testament to the LGBT tourist information office that we have decided to move to a more central location and I am looking forward to the centre building on its successes in the heart of London’s gay village.

“The support of volunteers and their local knowledge has been of such great value to LGBT tourists. We are always looking for people to get involved and if people would like to volunteer then we would be delighted to hear from them.”
