Brighton and Hove City Council Makes Stonewall’s Top 100 Employers
January 15, 2010
When it comes to the most gay-friendly local authorities, the Brighton and Hove city council is the one to beat as it makes the top spots for councils for the second year in a row.
According to this year’s Stonewall’s yearly Workplace Equality Index, the “ddefinitive national benchmarking exercise showcasing Britain’s top employers for lesbian, gay and bisexual staff” has come up with some new and old names on this year’s list, with the Brighton and Home City Council making top honours for the second year in a row.
A 25-question survey designed to measure equality in the workplace for lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGBT) people covering nine areas of policy and practice was posed to 352 and the results show that Brighton City Council is once again at the forefront of workplace equality.
The reason for scoring high on the index is the result of a high number of senior members within the council, equal opportunity recruitment advertising, insisting on equality awareness training for staff as well as having a recruitment drive during the Pride festival.
The figures also show Gay staff at the council, which makes up 15 per cent of the total workforce as having a job satisfaction level of 10 per cent higher than workers outside the Top 100 LGBT friendly employers.
This is the second year the council has outperformed all participants in the Stonewall Top 100 Employer’s Survey.
