Katy Perry's Parents Condemn 'Shameful and Disgusting' Lesbian Kiss Hit
Monday 18th August 2008
Pop singer Katy Perry, currently enjoying the success of her lipstick lesbian anthem “I Kissed a Girl”, has had the song condemned by her parents as “shameful and disgusting.”

The song is,as you might have guessed, about Perry snogging the face off a girl during a drunken night at a bar, although the song quickly reinforces Perry’s heterosexuality with the lines “I hope my boyfriend don’t mind it”.
While the drunken same-sex kiss is more likely to indicate the participants are in college than homosexual, Perry’s parents were enraged by the anthem about Saturday night sexual exploration.
Perry’s parents, Mary and Keith Hudson, are Evangelical ministers. They have condemned their daughter’s music based on their religious beliefs.
Mary Hudson said: “We hate it. It promotes homosexuality, which the Bible clearly states is a sin, and it is shameful and disgusting. When it comes on I bow my head and pray. She is our daughter and we love her and can't cut her out of our lives. But we strongly disagree with how she is conducting herself and she knows how disappointed we are.”
Mrs. Hudson blames the wicked ways of Hollywood for corrupting Perry, whose debut album in 2001 was comprised of Christian songs. Perry dropped her given name for her mother’s maiden name after the album flopped. Mrs. Hudson believes the song, like many a girl-on-girl kiss at a frat party, is merely a rebellious cry for attention.
She said: "Katy is not a homosexual and has just been led astray by Hollywood. She changed when she went to LA and is going through a period of rebellion. She's told me, 'Oh Mum, I'm not going to turn into Amy Winehouse,' but I pray all the time God will help her find salvation."
Keith Hudson, who acts as a faith healer and says he is guided by the Holy Spirit, was said to be particularly distressed after she dove into the crowd and kissed a lesbian fan at a recent live show.
Perry appears to be at peace with her parents, if not happy with their condemnation. She said: "I stopped trying to change my folks at 21."
“I Kissed a Girl” peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It’s currently at number three.
