Gambia Announces War Against Gays

In a shocking and horrific move, the President of Gambia has announced a campaign of exile and genocide against gays in the country.
President Yahya Jammeh, addressing his supporters at a victory rally in Tallinding, Gambia, announced a war on the LGBT community. African news site Afrik .com said the despot had vowed to kill off every gay man in Gambia. He said gay men and women had 24 hours to leave the country or face “serious consequences”. Most ominously he threatened to "cut off the head" of any gay man found in the country.
British newspaper the Daily Observer reported that the President had told “homosexuals, drug dealers, thieves and other criminals, to leave The Gambia or face serious consequences if caught. The President equally warned all those who harbour such individuals to kick them out of their compounds, noting that a mass patrol will be conducted on the instructions of the IGP and the director of the Gambia Immigration Department to weed bad elements in society. “
The President promised vicious retribution against the LGBT community, immigrants, and anyone who helps them. He said: ""Any hotel, lodge or motel that lodges this kind of individuals will be closed down, because this act is unlawful. We are in a Muslim dominated country and I will not and shall never accept such individuals in this country."
He warned that he will crack down harder than any other country on gays and lesbians, saying that he had introduced laws stricter even than those in Iran. Gambia already has harsh anti-gay laws. Homosexual acts are punished by up to seven years in prison.
Jammeh is already known for his occasionally abnormal views. Pretty much everyone in the Western world was horrified last year when he announced that he had developed a cure for AIDS that involved him rubbing herbs on people who then ate some herbs and bananas. Jammeh still insists it works and cures AIDS within a month. The Gambian AIDS level has not changed since Jammeh invented his miracle cure.
The radical politician has blamed immigrants and drug dealers for many of the ills befalling the African country, but has only threatened genocide for homosexuals.

This is disgusting and horrible. I don't want the US to start another war or anything, but I really hope someone prevents this from taking full effect. Jaclene

Insane. And the really scary thing is that other countries are heading in the same direction with their persecution of homosexuals. Even in the US, once at the forefront of Gay Rights, the "Religious Right" are introducing hate-legislation such as Prop 8. It's nowhere near in the same league as Gambia, but you can bet that there are those who share Jammeh's views. Erra
