MAIN ACTIVITIES, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The post holder will be expected to play a full role in the work of the College although it is expected that the majority of her/his work will be in the Art & Design area. The main activities, duties and responsibilities of the post are set out below. The description is intended to give a framework rather than to set limits. Further Education Colleges are required to respond to rapid change and a re-evaluation of the duties may be required from time to time, in consultation with the post holder
.
The post holder will be required:

1. To co-ordinate a course(s) as required.

2. To act as a Tutor for a group (or groups) of students and take responsibility for their tutorial and pastoral care. This will involve implementing the College guidelines on tutoring.

3. To take an active role in all aspects of student assessment and accreditation.

4. To take part in curriculum planning and product development as required in order to deliver the College’s strategic objectives.



5. To take an active role in the marketing, selection and recruitment for College courses.

6. To assist in the planning and arranging of work placements and in the monitoring, visiting and assessment of students on work experience.

7. To liaise with external agencies.

8. To undertake research and to engage in necessary development to ensure quality delivery.

GENERAL

1. To assist in identifying personal staff development needs and to take part in staff training and line management reviews.

2. To contribute to College quality assurance systems and provide information as required.

3. To contribute to and implement the College\'s Equal Opportunities, Widening Participation and Inclusive Learning Policy.

4. To carry out all duties in accordance with the College’s Health and Safety Policy in line with best practice.

5. To promote and ensure effective communication within teams and across the College.

6. To contribute to meeting College targets for promoting student recruitment and improving student retention, achievement and progression

7. To contribute to widening participation and skills development in accordance with the College’s Strategic Plan.

As a condition of employment, you may be required by the Principal to undertake such other comparable duties as may reasonably be required of you in the post mentioned above or in a comparable post in any of the Organisation’s Sections or Services at any of the College’s sites.

PERSON SPECIFICATION/SELECTION CRITERIA

Knowledge and Understanding of:

1. Current curriculum changes and the implications for learning strategies.

2. Current strategies for improving teaching and learning in the further education sector.

3. The accreditation framework and assessment strategies for art & design in the post-16 sector.

4. A range of strategies to meet the individual learning needs of students.

5. The application of information technology to teaching and learning strategies.

Experience of:

1. Teaching and tutoring art & design students.

2. Industrial experience in all or a majority of the following:

• 3D Design including; interior, architecture, product, jewellery, furniture, theatre – functional and non-functional concepts
• Graphics including; typography, advertising, packaging, illustration – manipulation of images, text layout
• Illustration

3. Successfully working as part of a team.

4. Curriculum development to meet the changing demands of the Further (& Higher Education) Sector.

5. Providing effective student support.

6. Working with external agencies.

Qualifications:

1. Relevant degree or equivalent professional qualification.

2. A teaching qualification or a willingness to participate in staff development to achieve a teaching qualification.

3. Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy qualification.
