February is LGBT History Month
Tuesday 20th January 2009
February is LGBT History Month in the UK.

Across the country, many different groups will hold events to celebrate the history of LGBT people and their struggle for equal rights throughout the years.
We’ve compiled some of the events here, so that anyone looking for an event can refer to Pinke. Of course this isn’t a full list, so if you’re looking for something in your area and there’s nothing listed here make sure to check your local news outlet for more information. These listings come from www.lgbthistorymonth.org.uk, so you can also check there for more information on events and LGBT history.
Walking tour of Historic LGBT Soho: Enjoy the vibrancy of Soho's exciting modern day streets whilst walking a heritage trail of diverse LGBT History. Hear about the characters that have lived challenging and complex lives, making unique contributions to science, the arts, culture, the community, politics and LGBT rights. This event will be held on Sunday, February 1 at 2 pm at the Admiral Duncan Pub in Soho at 54 Old Compton Street. For more info email info@kairosinsoho.org.uk
Milk: Nottinghamshire’s Rainbow Heritage will be holding a screening of Gus Van Sant’s biopic Milk at the Broadway Cinema on Broad Street at 5 pm and 8 pm Sunday, January 1 and several days throughout the month. For more info email nottsrh@hotmail.co.uk. The group will also hold an exhibit on LGBT History at the Central Library throughout the month.
Pride in Southwark: Specially created for the 5th national lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans History Month, Pride in Southwark is an exhibition that celebrates all things Pride, past, present and future. Pride in Southwark celebrates the Pride journey and contains images taken at Pride events by photographer Pam Isherwood. These images will blend with pieces from members of the community alongside art created by young people who entered a recent Art Competition in Southwark.
This exhibition invites everyone to come and celebrate Pride in Southwark at the Menier Gallery on Southwark Street throughout the first week of the month. For more info visit www.southwark-lgbt.org.
We’ll be posting more events throughout the month so be sure to check back with Pinke to see if we’ve added anything you just can’t miss.
