London Eye Gets Rainbow Makeover for Pride

Friday 4th July 2008

Europe’s largest Pride event kicks off tomorrow as London Pride takes over the “capitol of the world”.

The city has been prepped for Pride, including a makeover for the famous London Eye. The London landmark will sport a group of rotating rainbow lights on its wheel in celebration of Pride.

London Mayor Boris Johnson has helped pave the way for the celebration and will be attending the event. This year’s theme is Fairytales, Myths and Legends. More than half a million people are expected to attend, and last year saw more than 600,000 descend upon the capitol.

The parade kicks off at 13:00 local time at Baker Street, and winds its way through London’s central districts. It will hit famous avenues like Oxford and Regent Street before wrapping up near Whitehall.

Afterwards the party will be in full swing as bands and celebrities compete for attention on the Trafalgar Square main stage. Sir Ian McKellen will begin the party at 15:00 and will be followed by acts like Sandi Thorne and Culture Beat.

Of course Pinke will also be in attendance. You can find us somewhere around Soho Square. We’ll have goodies galore and we always love to hear whatever our readers have to say. Come check us out. Look for the white t-shirt with the distinctive pinke E. See you there.
